First 3D Print

If this is your first time 3D Printing read over these instructions before getting to work

  • The file you want to 3D Print must be an object file (.obj) or an stereolithographic file (.stl)
  • Each printer has a slightly different software and set up; see which printers are available, then go to that printer's instructional page on our website
  • Think about your print logically:
    • It doesn't make sense to print a candy cane standing up right, but it does make sense to print it flat against the bed
    • Printing a ring on its side will cause the center to be filled with supports, lying the ring down circumvents this issue, giving you a cleaner print
    • Having your design oriented corrected lessens the chance of printing error
  • If this is your first print, put "supports" on your design, this will lessen the chance of the print going wrong
  • Infill should only fall between 15-40%,
    • A higher fill does not equal a better print, but it does equal a high print time
    • Starting with 25% fill should be fine
  • Prints take a long time. Generally: 3-10 hours for a small print, 10-17 for a medium, and 17-24 for a large one. Time manage accordingly
  • Check out Tinkercadto create a 3D model.
