The HTC Vive
The HTC Vive is a virtual reality headset that transforms the space you're in into a 3D virtual space the user can interact with. The Vive also comes with handheld controllers that track your arm and hand movements, allowing you to hold, throw, and interact with the objects in the virtual space in a multitude of ways.
Setting Up the HTC Vive
- Plug the cord from the headset into either the PC or the port on the desk near the monitors.
- Turn on the two handheld controllers by pressing the button under the large thumb pad. Do this after step 2 in the "Starting the HTC Vive" section of the tutorial
- Put on the headset, and adjust the straps to fit comfortably around your head. If the images in the headset are blurry, use the dial on the right side of the headset to adjust the vision focus settings.
- Sound, although not necessary, may enhance the HTC Vive experience. If you would like to test the Vive with audio, attach headphones to the wire on top of the headset.
Starting the HTC Vive
- Open the "Steam" app (located on the desktop)
- Look at the upper right of the Steam application menu screen, and mouse over "VR," now press "Start VR"
- Step 2 will open a menu that shows which devices are connected and working. If all devices are connected, the menu should say "Ready."
- Once the menu says "Ready," choose a game under the "VR" section of the "My Games" tab to the left of the "Steam" application screen.
- You are now ready to use the HTC Vive
*If while using the HTC Vive, the light on the controller is red, this means the power is low. You can also determine low power by looking at the HTC Vive menu. If next to the green controller is a red lightning bolt, this means the controller needs to be charged. To charge the controller, located the Micro USB wire on the black mobile desk between the two computers. Plug the Micro USB end into the bottom of the handheld controllers
